The purpose of the utilities is very diverse. These helper programs fight computer viruses, manage the parameters of built-in and peripheral equipment, and perform other important tasks that cannot be solved by standard operating system tools.
The utilities help to protect file data of personal content by encryption of varying degrees of difficulty, as well as to set a strong password to access the file. This is one of the important aspects that allows you to protect private information from someone else's interference, damage and theft.
This attack most often targets certificate files, codes, passwords, family or business media files (photos, videos, presentations), licensed software, mail programs, operating system settings.
Utilities monitor the performance of various computer services, for example, processor, disk and memory card readers, video card, modem, RAM and physical memory, etc. In addition, such utilities constantly conduct tests of built-in and peripheral devices and signal when problems are detected, they also make requirements for improving or replacing software and accessories (for example, a printer cartridge).
The utilities recover lost files that were inadvertently removed from the recycle bin. The same programs can help to permanently delete files from your computer, if required.
There are certain types of utilities called tweakers that are used to tweak operating system settings. Such programs solve various problems, for example, rebuilding the interface for an individual user, optimizing the system.
There are also "bad" utilities that can harm the computer themselves. Such hacker developments include constructors (they continuously generate a virus), worms, "joke" programs that give incorrect information to the user about the operation of a computer, etc.
Most of the utilities have the status of free software, sometimes they are universal applications with many functions.
