In the Windows operating system of different versions there are built-in tools that allow you to find out the operating time of the computer, but only in the current session. You can get information for a longer period using application programs from other manufacturers. Such programs can provide much more detailed information about the time periods of operation and downtime of the computer, about the dates of switching on and off, etc.
Instructions
Step 1
Use the Windows Task Manager if you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7. You can start it by pressing CTRL + alt="Image" + Delete. In these two versions of Windows, a line with information about the operating time is placed on the "Performance" tab - look for it in the "System" section.
Step 2
Another method works in Windows XP too. It assumes the use of a system utility called systeminfo, for which you need to open the terminal of a command line emulator. Press the keyboard shortcut WIN + R and in the program launch dialog box enter cmd. By clicking the "OK" button you will be able to use the command line.
Step 3
Type systeminfo at a command prompt. In order not to be mistaken, you can copy the name of the utility here (CTRL + C), then right-click in the terminal and select the "Paste" command from the context menu. Press the Enter key. In a few seconds, the utility will collect information about the operation of your OS and display it in a terminal window.
Step 4
Scroll down the long list of the report near the beginning and find the "System Up Time" line if you are using Windows XP. This line contains the operating time of the system in the current session.
Step 5
Look for the line "System boot time" if you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7. In this case, you will have to calculate the operating time of the system yourself, subtracting the time indicated in the found line of the report from the current time.
Step 6
More detailed statistics on the computer's operating time can be obtained using programs from other manufacturers. For example, if you open the "Operating System" section in the left pane of the Everest program, you will find a section called "Uptime". It contains not only the duration of the current session, but also the time of the previous shutdown of the computer, the date and time of the very first boot of the operating system, the total operating time and downtime for this entire period, the duration of the longest sessions of work and downtime, etc.
