There are several protocols that determine the order of transfer of data of different types through local and global computer networks. One of them was created in 2001 and called BitTorrent, which has since become very widespread. The manufacturers of the Opera browser, given the popularity of this protocol, have built a torrent client into their application. However, using an Internet browser to exchange files is not always convenient, so it often becomes necessary to disable browser support for this protocol.
Instructions
Step 1
Open the main Opera menu, go to the "Settings" section and select the top line - "General settings". As a result, a separate window will open, in which the browser settings are located on several tabs. You can also call this window using hotkeys - this command is assigned a combination of Ctrl + F12.
Step 2
Go to the tab on the far right ("Advanced"). On the left side of this tab there is a list of subsections - select the "Downloads" line in it. In the table that will open as a result, there is a column "MIME-type". Each packet of information sent to the browser has a service field in which the code designation of the type of the transmitted file is placed. Using this field, the browser determines what exactly needs to be done with the file even before it is received in full, with the very first piece of information. Torrent files correspond to the designation application / x-bittorrent - find it in the list, select the corresponding line and click the "Delete" button. By doing this, you will destroy Opera's default way of handling files of this type.
Step 3
Click OK and the changes to your browser settings will take effect.
Step 4
Use the browser's built-in settings editor as an alternative way to disable the Opera torrent client. To open this editor, type opera: config in the address bar.
Step 5
Go to the section of the configuration settings, which is responsible for installing the torrent client. You don't have to scroll through a very long list of sections - they are arranged alphabetically, so you will see the section titled BitTorrent at the very beginning (on the third line of the list). Click on a label to open a form containing a set of settings for this section.
Step 6
Uncheck the checkbox under the Enable inscription and click the "Save" button - it is located at the very bottom of this section of settings. This completes the disconnection of the built-in torrent client and the configuration editor page can be closed.
