Step 1
To find out when the photo was taken, open the folder containing the given object and move the mouse cursor over the item of interest. If the settings of your system allow, view additional information in the pop-up window - usually there is written information about the file size, modification date, creation date, camera and lens model, and so on. The date of the photo will be displayed according to the system date on the device with which it was taken. In some cases, the time and date on the camera gets lost, and people are just too lazy to change it to the current one, so they leave the settings unchanged. In this case, the date when the photo was taken cannot be found.

If you want to find out the date when a photo was taken using a mobile device, download a special file manager corresponding to the operating system installed. Please note that it must have a metadata read function. After that, launch it on your phone, navigate to the file directory and view additional information.

Download also a file manager for your computer. After launching it, go to the file menu, and below, read the date of creation of the photo, if such information is contained in this image. It is usually lost when transferring a file through some Internet services and when using common graphics editors like Paint.

Download and install a program for viewing images on your computer, most likely they will also have a function for reading additional information. Also, the easiest way to find out the date when a photo was taken is to look at its names. Often they are assigned according to the date and time of the photo. In particular, this applies to photography from mobile devices.
