Each computer connected to the network has an IP-address (Internet Protocol Address) - a unique network identifier. Sometimes it becomes necessary to find out the ip-address of a particular network resource or computer of a particular user.
Instructions
Step 1
There can be quite a few situations in which you may need to determine the ip of a remote computer. In some cases, ip is determined very easily, in some more complicated. Let's consider several options for determining ip. The easiest option is to determine the ip-address of a network resource by its domain name. Let's say you have a site like www.name.com. Open the command line: "Start - All Programs - Accessories - Command Prompt". Enter the command: ping www.name.com. Hit Enter. A message will appear: "Exchange of packages with www.name.com", after this message - if the exchange was successful - the ip-address of the site will be shown
Step 2
Sometimes it becomes necessary to find out the ip-address with which your computer is currently connected. For example, there is a communication on ICQ and you want to check the ip of the interlocutor. In this case, you can use the "netstat" command. Open command prompt again, type (without quotes): "netstat –aon", press Enter. A list of current connections for your computer will appear, among them will be the desired ip-address.
Step 3
The netstat –aon command is also useful in that in many cases it can detect the presence of suspicious connections in the system. For example, you see that at the moment they are connected to port 30327 from such and such an ip-address. This indicates that a Trojan horse is most likely present on your computer. If there is no connection at the moment, the computer port used by the server side of the Trojan program (present on your computer) will be in the LISTENING connection waiting state. If you see ports open that are not used by programs common to your computer, be sure to find out what kind of programs open them.
Step 4
The next variant of determining ip can be used in the event that you received a letter by e-mail and you want to find out the ip-address of the sender. In this case, the mail programs Outlook or The Bat! - with their help, you can view the header of the letter, containing all the data on its sending. Find the line "Received: from" in the header, immediately after it the sender's ip will be indicated.
