Upgrading the RAM in a laptop is perhaps one of the few procedures available to a wide range of users. Despite the difficulty of replacing individual components, adding RAM to a laptop is quite simple. Many computers are even specially designed to make it easier to access.
Instructions
Step 1
Before adding RAM to your laptop, find out the configuration of the devices installed in it and the possibility of their replacement. This includes exploring options for adding RAM and purchasing brackets of the appropriate size and standard that will fit your laptop. It will also be useful to familiarize yourself with the repair and maintenance manual for your laptop model. Download it from the manufacturer's website. In it you will find all the necessary information regarding any operations that you can perform on your own, if you wish, without contacting service centers, thus saving money.
Step 2
Many laptop models offer the ability to simplify user access to memory modules for expansion or replacement. Therefore, there is often no corresponding need to disassemble the entire computer, as is the case, for example, when cleaning the fan from dust or when replacing the keyboard. At the same time, your laptop model may have its own design features, so read the instructions for removing the RAM in advance in the repair manual.
Step 3
To add RAM to the laptop, follow the steps in the following order:
• Completely turn off the laptop;
• Disconnect from it all connected external devices, the power supply cord, and remove the battery;
• On the underside of the laptop, unscrew the screws securing the RAM compartment cover (if your computer model has a corresponding design), and lift up to remove the cover.
• Spread apart the clips holding the RAM bracket in the corresponding slot and carefully slide the memory module out.
• Assemble the laptop with the new RAM strip in reverse order.
