It is important to protect working documents not only from industrial espionage, but also from inept user actions. MS Excel spreadsheet editor provides users with different protection methods.
Instructions
Step 1
All table cells are protected by default. If you only need to protect one column from changes, press Ctrl + A on your keyboard to select the entire range. Click on any cell with the right mouse button to open the context menu and select the "Format cells" option. Go to the "Protection" tab and uncheck the "Protected cell" item.
Step 2
Check the column whose data you want to protect. Again call the drop-down menu, go to the "Protection" tab and check the "Protected cell" checkbox. Now only cells of this column are protected. However, for the protection to take effect, the entire sheet must be protected.
Step 3
In the "Tools" menu, select the commands "Protect" and "Protect Sheet". In the "Allow all users …" section, check the boxes for the actions that can be performed on the data. If you enter a password in the appropriate field, then only those users to whom you provide this code will be able to remove protection
Step 4
You can open access to changes in data in a certain range to any participant. In the "Service" menu, select "Protection" and "Allow changing ranges". In the dialog box, click New. In the "Name" field, enter a name for the range, in the "Cells" field, a range of cells. Click OK to confirm
Step 5
To protect a column in MS Excel 2007, select the entire range Ctrl + A, and select the "Format Cell" command from the drop-down menu. Go to the "Protection" tab and uncheck the "Protected cell" item.
Step 6
Select the required column and put a flag in the "Protected cell" checkbox. In the "Review" menu, select the "Protect Sheet" option
Step 7
In Excel 97, when you select Protect Sheet from the Tools menu, you can only protect the sheet content, objects, and scripts. To enable editing of the data in the column, select the "Protect Workbook and Share" command.
Step 8
In the dialog box, select the checkbox next to Share with fixes. After that, the "Password" field will become active. Users to whom you have provided this password will be able to make changes.
