Released about ten years ago, the shooter Half-Life remains relevant to this day, primarily due to the excellent network component. Alas, despite the large number of active players, most large servers have long ceased to exist: their place is being replaced by small game sessions created by fans.
Instructions
Step 1
Install the HLDS Update Tool. This program is created by the forces of Valve itself and will allow you to download the server files directly. To do this, create a shortcut to the HldsUpdateTool.exe file, open the properties and add to the line with the executable file: -command update –game valve -dir #, where # is the address where HLDS is installed. A DOS-type console will appear, which will display the results of the download, the duration of which will depend only on the speed of your Internet.
Step 2
Download from any Metamod forum dedicated to the game. This fan-made utility is needed in order to install a number of necessary plugins on the server. Unpack the archive with the files to the address valveaddonsmetamod, then in the liblist.gam file (located in the valve directory), replace the gamedll "dllshl.dll" line with gamedll "addonsmetamodmetamod.dll" - this will activate the program.
Step 3
Choose plugins to install on your server. There are a huge number of those on the Internet: some allow you to move objects, others introduce a role element on the server, and still others make access to administrator rights more convenient. A great example of the latter type of extensions is Amx Mod X, which allows you to control many nuances of gameplay directly from the game.
Step 4
Configure the server. This can be done by editing the sever.cfg file located in the valve folder. Open the document with a text editor. You need to change the line hostname “My Server” - enter the name of the server in quotes; under the Set Rates line there is a list of match parameters with numerical values that can be freely edited, under // cheat and fun modes you will find the possibility of auto-aiming and enabling cheats.
Step 5
Open the properties of the hlds.exe shortcut. Enter the following parameters in the address line: hlds.exe -console + sv_lan 0 -insecure -game valve -nomaster + maxplayers 21 + map de_dust + port 27015 + ip 255.255.255.255 + exec listip.cfg. In sum, this can be interpreted as “launching Half-life (game valve) at 255.255.255.255:27015 (ip, port) on de_dust (map) for 21 players (maxplayers) without steam support (nomaster) and without password (insecure) . Save changes and launch the game using this shortcut.
