A computer's network card is its gateway to the outside world. With its help, communication with the Internet is carried out, all downloaded programs and other information "pass" through it. At the same time, the network card also acts as a kind of fuse between the network cable and the motherboard.

It is necessary

Computer, network card, Phillips screwdriver, installation disc with drivers, minimal computer skills

Instructions

Step 1

Remove the old network card from the system. To do this, open the cover of the system unit from the side of the motherboard, remove the screw that secures the card to the case, and carefully remove the network card from the slot.

Step 2

The network card may be built into the motherboard. It is clear that in this case you will not be able to extract it physically. In this case, it should be disabled in the motherboard BIOS. To do this, go to the BIOS settings panel (press the Del, F1 or F2 key immediately after rebooting, which one the computer will "prompt" for). Select the "Peripherals" tab, and in the On-board LAN line set the position Off or Disable. The procedures described may vary slightly depending on the motherboard model, but in most cases this should be done this way.

Step 3

After the old network card is removed, the new one should be installed. It is inserted into any free PCI slot, and then secured with a screw. Make sure that the card is evenly installed in the connector, the “comb” of contacts should disappear into the slot almost completely. Close the case cover, reconnect the network cable, and turn on the computer.

Step 4

Install the network card driver. The operating system can do this automatically, but if it does not, run the installer from the disk supplied with the network card.
