You have a modern computer and you bought a new hard drive. You've probably already heard about the new NCQ feature that has been implemented on the latest models. You are looking forward to accelerating Windows and software loading, reducing the noise from the hard drive. All that remains is to go into the BIOS and make some changes to the settings.

Step 1
If you know about such new products and understand what is at stake, you probably know how to start the BIOS. If not, restart your computer. While testing the RAM, the message Press Del to enter setup will appear at the bottom of the screen. So you need to press the Del button or the one that will be indicated instead of it, perhaps it will be a key combination to enter the BIOS.
Step 2
AHCI setting at the BIOS level is present only in motherboards of the new generation, in which the IDE / SATA controller supports the SATA II interface. AHCI stands for Advanced Host Controller Interface. To configure this setting, find the ATI SATA Type tab. Possible values in the tab: Native IDE, RAID, AHCI.
Step 3
In the Native IDE position, SATA drives will be accessed using a mechanism similar to an IDE controller. In this position, no additional drivers are needed, since everything that is necessary for correct operation is contained in any operating system. The RAID value combines hard drives into RAID arrays, increasing data storage reliability and performance. Installation requires a driver on removable media. And finally, the AHCI value: the disk subsystem has the highest performance value in this mode.
Step 4
Similar work is done if the tab is called SATA RAID / AHCI Mode. The only difference is that the IDE controller mechanism will be used in the Disabled parameter. RAID and AHCI in SATA RAID and AHCI Mode options, respectively.
Step 5
If you have a SATA AHCI Mode tab, there will be values: Enabled and Disabled. The Enabled parameter will allow you to take advantage of the AHCI mode.
Step 6
It is recommended to enable AHCI mode before installing the operating system. If the mode changes in the BIOS occurred while the system was installed, a "blue screen of death" will appear. To prevent this from happening, forcibly replace the standard IDE / SATA driver.
Step 7
If it so happens that you have an old OS (Windows 9x family) installed, then using the AHCI controller is hardly permissible, since the necessary drivers do not exist.
