To enter the degree of a number, type the base of the number and the value of the degree in digits, then select the degree with the mouse while holding the left button. You can select another way: place the cursor in front of the desired number, press Shift and the "Right Arrow" key.

In the "Format" menu, click on the "Font" item and in the "Modify" section, check the box next to the "Superscript" item. The Sample section is used to preview the results. You can also open the "Font" window by pressing Ctrl + D.

In the "Interval" tab in the "Offset" field, you can select the shift of the selected digits up or down. Enter the offset value in the field on the right. In the "Spacing" box, you can change the distance between the numbers by selecting "Sparse" or "Compressed". Specify the amount of spacing in the field on the right.

To convert numbers into an index, select them and in the "Font" section of the "Format" menu, check the "Subscript" item in the "Font" tab. You can change the size of the numbers and their position relative to the line in the "Spacing" tab, as described above.

If you frequently use degrees and indices, you can display the corresponding buttons on the taskbar. To do this, click on the down arrow to the right of the taskbar, click "Add or Remove Buttons" and "Formatting". In the drop-down list, click "Superscript" and "Subscript".

In Word 2010, these buttons are already displayed on the taskbar. To find them, activate the "File" menu and go to the "Home" tab. You can also call the "Font" window by pressing Ctrl + D
