You have stepped on the path of mastering a computer and want to know what these files, folders are and why they are needed. In a brief overview, we will try to understand these concepts and learn how to create them.
Instructions
Step 1
All information on a computer is stored in files (area of a disk or other storage medium having a specific name). They, in turn, are located in directories and subdirectories (folders). Files are created by programs (during installation) or by you (when doing any work). The installed programs organize the structure by themselves, "putting" files into directories. When you have completed some work, you must independently dispose of the created file (give it a name, place it on a disk, etc.).
There are many applications for creating files. Even if you have not yet installed Microsoft Office, you can easily, using the standard applications built into the operating system, create text files, pictures, edit photos, etc. Procedure: open the program, create a file. Now it must be saved. In the "file" menu, select the "save" or "save as" item. In the window that opens, give a name to the file. You can choose any name, but try to make it so that you can easily find it later (reflect the meaning of the created one). When naming, you can use both Latin and Cyrillic - which is more to your liking. If you are "friends" with English, opt for the Latin alphabet - this will greatly help in recovering lost information.
Step 2
Next, you need to place this file somewhere. You can, of course, and on the desktop or just on the C drive, but what will it turn into after several weeks of work? You yourself will not be able to find what you have already created (the name was forgotten, I do not remember the time - where to look?). That is why you need to carefully arrange everything into folders. You can do this right when saving the file by specifying the path. If such a folder does not exist, it will be created automatically. When installing Windows, the “Documents and Settings” folder is automatically generated, in it - “My Documents”. It was created for the convenience of work, by default it is proposed to create catalogs in it and store your documents. Do you have any questions? For this there is the Internet.
Step 3
You can easily create a folder (directory) file in Explorer - a Windows tool. To do this, right-click on a blank field in the directory where you want to create a folder, select “create”, then “folder” (or a file of any type, for example, “bitmap”). After entering the name, the folder or file will be created. By opening the newly created file, you will be taken to the application corresponding to the type of the created file, where you can edit it. So in our example, the Paint program will open for editing, in which you will make the desired picture.
Step 4
In addition to Explorer, there are a large number of special programs for file operations - "file managers". They are designed for various operating systems (DOS, Windows, Lotus, etc.). For them, everything that was said above is true - i.e. to create, you can use the context menu (right-click). In addition, it is possible to create directories (folders) with the F7 key. When you find the location where you want to create a new directory, press the F7 function key, specify a name for the new directory, and click OK. The folder will be created immediately. It is very convenient to create directories with identical names in this way. If they differ slightly (for example, by number), then you need to go to the already created folder, by default the same name will be offered, change the number, and that's it.
