Instructions
Step 1
Prepare your hard drive for multiple operating systems. It is better to split the hard drive into three sections, but you can get by with two. Use the Partition Manager program. Run this utility, select Advanced Mode, and open the Wizards menu. Select "Create Section".
Step 2
Specify the hard disk partition to be split into two. Click "Next". Select the size of the future local disk and its file system. Be sure to check the box next to Create as Logical Drive. Click "Next". Close the new window by clicking the Finish button.
Step 3
Click the "Apply Pending Changes" button located on the toolbar. Wait for the hard disk partitioning process to complete. Insert the Windows XP installation disc into the drive and restart the computer.
Step 4
Press the F8 key and choose to boot from DVD drive. When the menu for selecting a drive for installing Windows XP opens, specify drive D or any other partition other than drive C. This is a mandatory rule, because XP boot files will still be written to drive C. Perform Windows XP installation as usual.
Step 5
Now start installing the Windows Vista or Seven operating system. This system must be installed on the C drive. Prepare this section in advance for installing a new OS. Its size must not be less than 20 GB. Do not format this partition because it already contains the Windows XP boot files.
Step 6
After the installation of the second operating system is complete, two items will be displayed when the computer boots. One is Windows 7 (Vista) and the other is "Previous Windows Version". Remember that you will lose the ability to start both systems if you format the C drive.
