Twisted pair is a cable made up of specially twisted insulated wires. Creating such a pair is a fairly common task when creating connections and networks, for example, to establish an Internet connection. Twisted pair differs from a simple copper wire in that the wires in it are covered with insulation and intertwined with each other. This technology allows you to significantly speed up data transfer.

Necessary

  • - stranded twisted wire;
  • - connector;
  • - a sharp knife;
  • - crimping pliers.

Instructions

Step 1

Before connecting the twisted pair to the outlet, you must do it correctly. To do this, you will need the cable itself, crimping pliers, and a sharp knife. Use a knife to peel off some of the outer insulation of the cable and carefully undo the twisted pairs themselves. In this case, you should not unravel the wires too much; the main thing is that this is enough for a tight connection with the connector.

Step 2

If you have a four-core cable, place the cores in the correct sequence. First, there should be an orange-white wire, then a white-blue wire, and then a blue one. If the number of cores in the cable is more than four, a similar procedure should be applied to the additional cores.

Step 3

Take the connector and turn it so that the key is on the bottom. Now connect the wires to the contacts in the sequence described above, counting the contacts from left to right. The task is made easier by the transparent body of the connector, so you can easily check how tightly the wires are inserted. If the connection is not tight enough, electrical contact may subsequently be broken.

Step 4

Using special crimping pliers, crimp the cable until it clicks into place. In this case, you do not need to press on the tool too hard. The process of installing a pair from one end of the cable is complete. Do the same for the other end of the cable.

Step 5

To install a twisted pair cable designed to connect two computers, use the same sequence of steps, using reverse crimping rather than forward crimping. Look for orange-white, green and white-red wires in the cable. Connect these wires in the reverse order to that described in step 2. In other words, replace the orange and white wire with white and blue, orange with blue, and so on. If the cable has more strands, the remaining ends can be connected as desired.

Step 6

After connecting, check how tight the wires fit to the pins, and then crimp the cable with pliers. Now the twisted pair can be used for its intended purpose, simply by connecting to the appropriate connectors on the computer or to the outlet.
