When communicating on social networks, the avatar serves as a kind of business card. To make your business card look original, you can add new elements to it, such as a frame. It is very convenient to use Adobe Photoshop for this purpose.
Instructions
Step 1
If you want to make an avatar of a photo, open it in Photoshop and double-click the image layer to unlock it. Press the M key and create a selection inside the picture, offset from the edge by the width of the intended frame. Invert the selection with Shift + Ctrl + I.
Step 2
On the Layers panel, click the Create a new layer button. Make the frame color the foreground color and choose the Paint Bucket Tool from the toolbar. Fill the selected layer and deselect it with Ctrl + D. Double click on the layer thumbnail to bring up the Layer style menu. Use Bevel and Emboss for a volumetric effect.
Step 3
There is another way to create a frame. Open the main image and create a new layer. Press the B key to activate the Pencil Tool ("Pencil"). On the property bar, set the desired size and hardness to 100%
Draw a frame on a new layer. To make the lines straight, hold down Shift on the keyboard. Call the menu Layer style and apply styles to the image.
Step 4
The standard avatar size is 100x100 pixels. When the picture is ready, in the Image menu select the Image Size command and set the desired values for the Width and Height parameters.
Step 5
If you downloaded an avatar from the Internet, it will not be very convenient to draw a frame on it due to its small size. Create a new large Background Contents Transparent document and collapse it without closing it. Open the downloaded avatar and double click on the layer to unlock it. Then hold down Ctrl and click on the icon with the left key. A selection appears around the image.
Step 6
Copy the picture to the clipboard using Ctrl + C and close. Restore the background image and paste the avatar with Ctrl + V. Activate the background layer and draw a frame on it using the Pencil or Selection tools. To save the image, choose the Save as … command from the File menu. In the Format field, expand the list and select JPEG.
