Wifi allows you to establish communication between computers without unnecessary wires. Not only laptop owners, but also owners of stationary PCs are increasingly inclined to choose radio waves to create a network. Moreover, most modern computers are immediately equipped with this technology. To set up a connection between computers, the built-in Windows tools are enough. The Windows 7 operating system is the most common one at the present time, therefore the tuning algorithm is given for it.
Instructions
Step 1
Create a wireless network on one of the computers. To do this, click the "Start" button, then open the "Control Panel" menu. Find the item "Network and Internet" and click the link "View network status and tasks." The Network and Sharing Center will open and click on the "Set up a new connection or network" icon. A window with connection options will open, select the second line "Create and configure a new network".
Step 2
Find the item "Create a computer-to-computer network". Click on this heading with the left mouse button and click "Next". Enter a name for your network in the first field. Specify one of the encryption types - they are selected from the drop-down list in the middle. This is necessary so that no one can connect to the network without your knowledge. When in doubt, choose the popular type of encryption, WEP.
Step 3
Be sure to specify the password, which is the network key. English letters and numbers are allowed. Make a note of the password and select the Remember network settings checkbox. Then click the Next button to go to the next setup screen. General information about the network and its parameters will appear on the screen. Click the "Close" button - this will complete the creation of the wireless network. Check through the Start menu and the Connect to submenu to see if the network has been successfully created. If everything is done correctly and the Wifi module is working, you will see the name of your network and the signal strength.
Step 4
Connect the second computer to the created network. Click the "Start" button and open the "Network and Sharing Center" menu, and then activate the "Connect to a network" icon. You will see a list of available networks. Double click on the desired one and enter the password - you wrote it down when creating the network. Click the "Connect" button, check the box to save the password. After a few minutes, a message appears about a successfully established wifi network connection between computers.
Step 5
Set up sharing of files, folders and network resources. Open the "Network Center" again and click on the "Change sharing settings" link. Check the boxes "Enable network discovery", enable file, folder and printer sharing in the "Home" and "Shared" sections. Click on the arrow opposite the section name to expand the entire list of settings. Click the "Save Changes" button and do the same on the other computer. Please note that this will require administrator rights. At the request of the system, you will need to enter a password.
