Before starting work with Photoshop, it is recommended to configure it. Leaving all settings at their default may degrade your computer's performance.
Instructions
Step 1
Open the program and select the main menu item Preferences - General. This tab does not affect the performance of your computer, so click Next and you will be taken to the File Handling tab. Here it is indicated whether the thumbnail image will be saved with the main file. It is used for previewing, which makes it easier to find pictures on the hard disk, but at the same time the size of the saved file is greatly increased. There are several options for saving these thumbnails. Never Save - no thumbnail will be created when the file is saved. This is inconvenient if you have a lot of images and you might forget what each name stands for. Always Save - the thumbnail will always be created, this will make it easier to navigate in Photoshop files. Ask When Saving is the optimal choice of this setting; when saving a document, you will decide for yourself whether you need to create a thumbnail in this case or not.
Step 2
Go to the Plug-ins & Scratch Disks tab. It contains the path to the folder containing the plug-ins and drives for temporary files. Photoshop needs a separate sector of the hard drive, and the larger it is, the better. It is recommended to split the hard drive into C and D and manually specify where the temporary files will be stored. For example, C will host applications, D will contain photoshop files.
Step 3
After that go to the Memory & Image Cashe tab. The amount of RAM that will be allocated for Photoshop is set on it. The Cashe Levels field is set by default to 4. The higher this value, the faster the image processing will take place. If the computer's RAM is less than 64MB, then leave the value 4, if it is more than 64 MB, then put 6, if it is more than 128 MB, then 8. In the Maximum Used by Photoshop item, the amount of RAM that will be used when Photoshop is running is determined. By default, there is 50%, you can increase this value to 80-90%.
