In the process of retouching images, it is often necessary to correct teeth defects. Depending on the state of the image, this task can be dealt with using the Clone Tool or by pasting a fragment copied from another image.
Necessary
- - Photoshop program;
- - photo for processing;
- - a snapshot with teeth.
Instructions
Step 1
Load a photo that needs correction into your graphic editor and estimate the scale of the work ahead. If a snapshot requires minor revision and the defect can be eliminated by covering it with a fragment of an existing image, use the Clone Tool to work.
Step 2
Using the Layer option in the New group of the Layer menu, insert a new layer into the document. Turn on the Clone Tool and make sure that the Sample All Layers checkbox is ticked in its settings panel. This will give you the ability to copy pixels from the background to a new layer without switching between layers.
Step 3
While holding down the Alt key, click on the fragment of the snapshot that will be suitable to close the defect. Releasing Alt, move the copied pixels over the area of the image where you want to paste the teeth.
Step 4
If you are cloning from the left side of the image to mask the defect on the right side of the mouth, you may need to mirror the copied pixels. To do this, use the Flip Horizontal option in the Transform group of the Edit menu. Move the displaced fragment with the Move Tool. Extra pixels can be removed with the Erazer tool.
Step 5
There are times when it is easier to completely copy teeth from another image than to restore the image using cloning. Look for a photo taken from the same angle as the photo you are retouching. Select the teeth on it with the Lasso Tool, copy the fragment with the Copy option and paste it on a new layer of the edited picture using the Paste option of the Edit menu.
Step 6
Adjust the size of the inserted fragment using the Free Transform option of the Edit menu. Use the Warp option in the Transform group of the Edit menu to deform the borders of the copied area so that the teeth look natural.
Step 7
Erase the excess fragments of the inserted teeth with the Erazer tool. To create a subtle transition between the original shot and the added area of the image, reduce the value of the Hardness parameter in the tool's brush settings.
Step 8
If necessary, the inserted teeth can be lightened. To do this, create a copy of the visible layers of the document by applying a combination of Ctrl + Alt + Shift + E, and change the blending mode of the created layer from Normal to Screen. Using the Hide All option, which is in the Layer Mask group of the Layer menu, add a mask to the layer and paint it with white in those areas that need lightening.
Step 9
Save the edited snapshot with a different name from the original file using the Save As option of the File menu.
