A TV tuner is a handy and useful thing. It allows you to watch TV shows right on your computer screen. Most modern TV tuners have the ability to capture video. This means that video can be recorded from the tuner directly to your hard drive. But for this you need to use a special program that supports work with video capture devices.

Instructions
Step 1
Launch VirtualDub and switch to video recording mode. To do this, select "File", then "Capture AVI …" from the menu.
Step 2
Select the tuner driver as the device from which the video will be captured. The list of available drivers is presented in the "Device" menu. After selecting the device driver, the video from the current tuner channel will be available in the program window.
Step 3
Select the broadcast TV channel. To do this, open the tuner properties dialog. Select the "Video" and "Tuner" menu items. In the dialog that appears, set the channel number, video signal standard and input type (antenna or cable).
Step 4
Specify the file to save the video. Press the F2 key, or select "File", "Set capture file …" from the menu. In the dialog that appears, enter the name and path to save the file.
Step 5
Select the frame size of the video captured from the tuner. Open the "Set custom video format" dialog by selecting "Video" and "Set custom format …" from the menu, or you can press the Shift + F combination.
Step 6
Select a video stream encoder. Press the C key, or click on the "Video" and "Compression …" menu items. In the "Select video compression" dialog that appears, specify the encoder. Optionally, you can also configure the compression settings by clicking the "Configure" button.
Step 7
Select the encoder for the audio stream. This is done in the "Select audio compression" dialog, which is available by selecting the "Audio" menu items and then "Compression …", or by pressing the A key.
Step 8
Record video from the tuner. The recording process starts when you select the menu items "Capture" and then "Capture video". You can also press the F5 or F6 keys. When recording, detailed statistics will be displayed in the right pane of the application.
Step 9
Finish recording your video. Press the Escape key, or select "Capture" and "Stop capture" from the menu. The file, the name of which was entered in the fourth step, will contain the video fragment recorded from the tuner.
