A joystick is a device that makes it more convenient to play some computer games than using a keyboard and mouse. However, sometimes this device refuses to work due to misconfiguration or failure.
Instructions
Step 1
Examine your joystick model. Common models of devices for a personal computer are those compatible with the Xbox360 console and not compatible. Even if your gamepad does not have instructions, it is enough to pay attention to how the sticks are located - if the right is lower than the left, then this model is from Microsoft and is supported by personal computers. Models with a different stick arrangement are most likely from other companies and may not be PC compatible. If you know the name of the manufacturer, try to study its official website and find out if the corresponding joystick will work when connected to a computer, or if it is intended exclusively for consoles.
Step 2
Make sure that the game you have installed supports the use of a joystick as a control device. Usually, there are no problems when installing games marked "Games for Windows". All other programs, especially those that came out several years ago, may not support modern joystick models or be incompatible with them at all.
Step 3
Install the drivers for your joystick. To do this, right-click on the "My Computer" icon and select "Properties". Open "Device Manager" and click on the unknown device icon with an exclamation mark. Specify the method for installing the drivers, for example, from a boot disk or via the Internet. After successfully installing the required services, the device will be detected by the system and will start working.
Step 4
Activate the joystick as a control in the game. This can be done in the settings via the main menu. Select Control Settings and switch Keyboard & Mouse to Gamepad or Joystick. Save the parameters and check the functionality of the device in the game.
