Encrypted archives can be of various types: general encoded files created in various programs; copy-protected PDF and others. If you come across this kind of file, you do not know what to do with it, follow the special instructions.

Instructions
Step 1
Right-click on the file and select Properties from the context menu that opens when working with Windows. Press Ctrl + mouse click or just right-click on the file and select the "get information" item in the context menu. This procedure is specific to Mac OS only. The properties of this section must indicate the type of file and programs with which it can be opened.
Step 2
Select the program with which you will open the encoded archive. If everything goes smoothly, then it will open without problems. If not, go to the next step.
Step 3
Download and install the File Reader application, which will be able to open your encoded archive. If it does not open in this program, then there is a high probability that the file is damaged or has a too long password. If everything works fine, then, most likely, you managed to recover a slightly damaged archive and even crack its password, and now it functions normally.
Step 4
If possible, open the file on your computer from which the encoded archive was originally created. If you can't, try doing it on a different computer running the same software. If, in this case, you cannot decode the file, it means that it is damaged, or the file extension is incorrect.
Step 5
Check the full name of the file by right clicking on it. Select the "properties" or "get information" section in it. When a file receives, changes its name, or is copied, chances are that it may have lost its extension, or it has changed due to a typo. In this case, specify the required extension depending on the file type, save the changes.
