In the Windows operating system and in many programs, hotkeys are used to perform various operations. They help the user to execute the desired command faster without moving the cursor to opposite parts of the screen. You can assign buttons on the keyboard in different ways.

Step 1
Some of the hotkeys function the same in all applications. For example, to execute the Copy command, the shortcut keys Ctrl and C are used, for the Paste command, Ctrl and V. Even the keys on some keyboards have corresponding signatures, it is up to you to decide whether to reassign them.
Step 2
To configure hotkeys in the Windows operating system, you often need to install additional IntelliType software from Microsoft. After the utility is installed, open the "Keyboard" component through the "Control Panel" and configure the appropriate settings on the required tabs.

You can also use third-party applications such as MapKeyboard to remap any key on your keyboard. Install the utility on your computer, run it. The virtual keyboard will appear. First, click on it the key you want to replace using the left mouse button. Next, in the Remap selected key to field, select a new key and save the parameters with the Save layout button. Reboot your computer.
Step 4
To assign some keys, you can use the properties window of the corresponding system component. So, to assign other keys to change the keyboard layout when typing, open the "Control Panel" from the "Start" menu and in the "Date, time, language and regional standards" category, select the "Regional and Regional Standards" icon.

A new window will open. Go to the "Languages" tab and click on the "Details" button. In the additional window, click on the "Keyboard Options" button on the "Options" tab and in the next window that appears, click on the "Change keyboard shortcuts" button.
Step 6
In programs that use hotkeys to invoke various tools, it is much easier to replace them than in the case of system components. Launch the application and find in the "Settings" menu the item "Hot keys", "Shortcuts", "Capture" or something similar in meaning. In the dedicated field, enter a new keyboard shortcut (or press one key) and save the new settings.
