A microphone is a very useful and practical device for any computer, as it allows you to record your voice and communicate with friends and family around the world. Sometimes it happens that it is defective or certain functions are not configured. It is important to study the step-by-step instructions in order for it to work again.
Necessary
- - Microphone;
- - computer;
- - Internet access;
- - instructions for the microphone.
Instructions
Step 1
Pay attention to the back of the system unit to see if the microphone is connected to the correct jack. The speaker connector is next to the microphone plug, so make sure they are connected correctly. The jack is usually red or pink and has a microphone image underneath. The speaker (headphone) connector is green and also has a corresponding logo. So, try swapping the plugs in case you can't hear sound from the microphone.
Step 2
Try the same procedure with the connectors on the front of the system unit, as some types of microphones can only work from the front connectors. Others - only from the back. It depends on the brand of microphone and on the settings of the programs that you use to record a conversation or just chat.
Step 3
Make sure the microphone is fully connected to the jack. There are cases when the user quickly sticks the plug into the connector, but does not do it completely. Do this carefully.
Step 4
Put your microphone to the test. Click on the "start" button in the lower left corner of your desktop. Then go to the "Control Panel", open it and select the icon labeled "Sounds and Audio Devices". Double click on it. Open the "voice" parameter and click. At the bottom of the next screen, you will see a button labeled "hardware test". Click on it.
Step 5
Wait for the computer to perform the test after clicking the "next" button. It will take some time. Then you will need to say a few words into the microphone to check it. You will see green wavy lines on the screen as you speak. Now play your recording and listen to how it sounds. Adjust the volume as needed.
Step 6
If not recording, make sure your microphone and hardware are fixed. Check your computer speakers and sound card. If your PC system is outdated, it needs to be updated.
Step 7
Install the software purchased with the microphone. If you bought a microphone without one, you can skip this step. If necessary, uninstall and reinstall the sound drivers on your computer.
