To allow network users to edit the contents of a folder on your computer, you need to change the security policy applied to it. In the Windows NTFS file system, this is done by editing the ACL (Access Control List). This list contains a list of permitted and prohibited actions for different user groups and individual users.

Step 1
The sequence of steps is slightly different depending on whether the Easy File Sharing option is enabled in your system settings. To find out, first open the control panel - the corresponding item is placed in the main menu on the "Start" button (in Windows XP - in the "Settings" subsection). With the panel open, click the Appearance and Themes link and then Folder Options. Then, going to the "View" tab, in the list under the "Advanced options", find the item "Use simple file sharing." If you need the ability to fine-tune the rights of all users, then uncheck the box. But you can also enable the permission to edit the contents of a folder with a simplified version.
Step 2
Now navigate to the folder you want to change the access rules for. By right-clicking it, open the context menu and select the "Sharing and Security" line in it. In the window that opens, go to the "Access" tab. The picture shows its appearance for the case of simplified access control.
Step 3
Check the box next to "Share this folder", and in the "Share name" field specify the name of the folder that will be seen by network users. And most importantly - check the box "Allow changing files over the network." With this you agree to change the contents of the folder by network users. At the end of the procedure, click the "OK" button.
Step 4
And this picture shows the appearance of the "Access" tab for the case with disabled simplified access. There is also a field for entering the folder name. Additionally, it is possible to restrict simultaneous connections to it.
Step 5
To allow external users to edit the folder files, in this option, click the Permissions button. Another window will open, where you need to check the box next to "Change".
