If you want to spy on your employees but don't want to walk down multiple aisles or floors to get to their computer, don't worry. Windows has a solution for this: Remote Desktop Connection. With Remote Desktop Connection, you can remotely access your employee's computer from your PC. Just configure a few network settings and you're ready to go.
Necessary
- - Computer
- - windows OS
Instructions
Step 1
Remote desktop access. Open the Start menu and select All Programs. Select the Accessories folder from the list of options displayed, then click Remote Desktop Connection. A dialog box will appear.
Step 2
Enter the name of the computer you want to connect to in the text box. If you do not know the computer name, you can select the computer from the list of computers available on the network by clicking the drop-down menu.
Step 3
Click the Options button located in the lower left corner of the dialog box. A new dialog box will open with a list of tabs at the top. Click the Show tab to resize the remote desktop. You can do this by dragging the pointer under the Display Configurations heading to increase or decrease the size of the Remote Desktop.
Step 4
Click the Local Resources tab next to the Display tab. Under Local Devices and Resources, check the boxes next to Printers and Clipboard. This is where you can access the printers and spooler on your client system while working on the remote desktop (i.e. the host system).
Step 5
Select local drives for client access. Click the Advanced button on the left side of the two checkboxes to select the local devices (disks) that you will access on the client system using the remote management system.
Check the appropriate checkboxes in the Drives section that you want to use, then click OK. The previous screen appears under Local Devices and Resources.
Step 6
Go to the "Experience" tab. Change the speed of the connection between your client system and the host computer by clicking on the drop-down menu and choosing the appropriate connection.
Check the box at the bottom left of the screen to automatically reconnect if the connection is broken.
Step 7
Click the Connect button located in the lower right corner of the dialog box. A message will appear asking you to confirm the connection. Click the Connect button located in the lower right corner of the message and the Windows Security dialog box appears asking for your username and password.
Step 8
Enter the username and password that are registered on the host computer. Click the "OK" button in the lower right corner of the screen to continue. (make sure the host machine is password protected by the specific username you want to connect to. Difficult to connect to username without password)
It can take up to several minutes to connect to the host system.
