Step 1

To study the history of the creation of Windows, you should remember the creation of Microsoft. The name Windows is inextricably linked with the name of the multi-billion dollar corporation that owns the rights to sell this software worldwide. Windows development began in 1980 in the United States. The owners of a small company called Micro-Soft (translated from English means “micro-soft”) Paul Allen and Bill Gates were engaged in the development of software products for the first computers that appeared. Their success attracted interest in IBM, the leading corporation in the electronic devices market at the time.

Step 2

In the summer of 1980, Micro-Soft met with IBM representatives. People from IBM spoke about the plans of their corporation to create personal computers and expressed interest in purchasing products such as Basic, Fortran, Cobol. But the main result of the meeting was an order from IBM to develop an operating system for a new computer, i.e. programs - the chief delegating authority to other subroutines. Thus began work on the creation of the IBM PC, a computer that shook and changed the whole world.

Step 3

The company named its new operating system MS-DOS, which stands for Microsoft Disk Operating System. 1981 the first IBM PC running MS-DOS was released.

Step 4

If you find and turn on a computer made in those years, you will see a blue or black screen with a blinking cursor waiting for a command. The MS-DOS operating system turned out to be very successful, but it was quite difficult to master it. It was clear that the first step was to improve the way we work with the operating system.

Step 5

At the time, Micro-Soft - already renamed Microsoft without a hyphen - was working on a number of tasks to develop graphics modules for Basic and a graphical interface for computers manufactured by Xerox. At the end of 1982, the idea of building a graphical interface for text-based MS-DOS appeared.

Step 6

The release of the first Microsoft Windows was announced at Comdex on November 10, 1983, but the operating system was only released in the fall of 1985. The final version appeared on November 20, 1985, its appearance overturned all the stereotypes about working with the operating system of those years. Windows 1.0 for the first time provided for the use of a mouse for system navigation, as well as various functions and applications: MS-DOS file manager, calendar, calculator, notepad, clock and organizer program. The demand for the new product was so high that Microsoft hired 55 programmers in one year to release the next version.
