In this article, we will guide you through setting up and using Internet sharing on Microsoft Windows XP. Sharing will allow you to use a single Internet connection for all computers connected to the local network. To share the Internet using Connection Sharing, the server must have two network cards. One is for the local network, the other is for the Internet.

Instructions

Step 1

We work with a server computer. We organize general access. First of all, we log into the server using the administrator account or the owner of the computer. We go to the "Start" menu, from there to the "Control Panel". Now go to "Network and Internet Connections" and click on the "Network Connections" item.

Step 2

Right-click on the connection that we will use to access the global network. For example, if the Internet will be accessed via a modem, you need to right-click on the required connection from the "Remote Access" section. Now go to the "Properties" submenu and open the "Advanced" tab.

Step 3

We are looking for a section called "Internet Connection Sharing" and check the box telling us about permission to use the Internet connection of the server computer to other users of the local network. Using a remote shared Internet connection, activate the "Set up a call on demand" checkbox. Thus, we will allow this computer to automatically connect to the Internet.

Step 4

We agree by pressing the OK button and read the message that appears. The essence of this message is that the network card of the local network will be assigned an IP automatically (192.168.0.1). Communication with other computers on the network may be lost. If other computers use static, rather than dynamic, IP addresses, then they should be configured to use dynamic IP addresses. You will be asked if you really want to enable Internet Sharing? Press YES and now the Internet connection will be available for all other computers included in the local network.
