Home LANs can be roughly divided into three types: cable, wireless and mixed. To connect devices to networks of each type, special network equipment is provided.
Necessary
- - router;
- - patch cords.
Instructions
Step 1
Find out which devices will be included in your home network. It can be three sets of computers: stationary PCs, laptops, or both. In the first case, you need to purchase a router, and in the other two, a Wi-Fi router.
Step 2
To identify a suitable device, pay attention to the following parameters:
1. The number of LAN interfaces through which stationary computers are connected;
2. The type of port for connecting to the provider's network;
3. Modes of the access point supported by the router.
Step 3
Get a router that meets all three points. Connect the equipment to AC power after setting it up in the desired area. When setting up a Wi-Fi network, it is wiser to place the router in the center of the apartment.
Step 4
Connect desktop computers to the router. This connection is made using patch cords - network cables with RJ45 connectors.
Step 5
Launch a web browser on one of these computers. Open the graphical interface of the router by entering its IP address. Start setting up a connection with your ISP by selecting the Internet Connection (WAN) menu.
Step 6
Fill out the form that opens. Use verified data that you can get from technical support specialists. Connect the ISP cable to the WAN (DSL) interface.
Step 7
Reboot your router. Reset the parameters of the network cards of the computers. Check the ability to connect to external resources. Reopen the graphical router control menu.
Step 8
Select the Wireless Connection (Wi-Fi) menu. Configure the operating mode of the wireless access point. In this case, be sure to take into account the features of mobile computers that will be part of the home network.
Step 9
Reboot the router again. If all devices have access to Internet resources, save the hardware configuration.
