Virtual memory is a collection of paging file and RAM memory. The paging file starts automatically when the computer's RAM is low. This mostly happens after the launch of video games. There is usually no need to disable virtual memory on your computer. But if your computer has a large capacity of RAM, then in this case it can be disabled. This may speed up your operating system slightly.

Instructions

Step 1

Before you start disabling virtual memory, make sure your computer has at least four gigabytes of RAM installed. Otherwise, there is simply no point in turning it off.

Step 2

Follow the steps below to turn off virtual memory in Windows 7. Click the "Start" button and select "Control Panel". Select "System" in the control panel. In the window that appears, go to the "Advanced Settings" tab. The "System Properties" window will appear, in which go to the "Advanced" tab. In the window that appears, the topmost component is called "Performance". On the right side of this window is the "Options" button. Click on it. Now in the current window select the "Advanced" component. In the window that appears, check the "Programs" item. Then from the bottom she click on the "Change" option. Uncheck the box next to the "Automatically select paging file size" line.

Step 3

Basically, the paging file is only included on the system drive. By default, the system disk is set to the letter C. Using the left mouse button, select your system disk. After that, at the bottom of the window, select the "No paging file" mode and click OK. The window will close. In all the following open windows, also click OK. When closing the last window, the system will ask for a reboot to change the operating mode. Select "Restart Computer Now". The computer will restart and virtual memory will be disabled.

Step 4

In Windows XP, the process for disabling virtual memory is much the same. The only difference is that in the last window "Virtual memory" you just need to set the system disk to "No paging file". Then also close all windows one by one by clicking OK. And, of course, restart your computer, as virtual memory will only turn off after doing this.
