Step 1
First, make sure that the devices installed in your computer can work with a 64-bit operating system. To do this, study the characteristics of the motherboard and processor. In the event that you do not have instructions for the aforementioned devices available, visit the official websites of their manufacturers.
Step 2
Now proceed with the installation of the new operating system. Precisely new, because the Windows OS developers do not provide for a smooth transition from the 32-bit version to the 64-bit one. Save all important files located on the system partition of the disk.
Step 3
Mount the Windows Seven installation disc into your DVD drive and restart your computer. Press the F8 key. The display will show a list of devices from which it is possible to continue booting the computer. Select DVD drive and press Enter.
Step 4
In the first window of the installation menu, select a language. You can choose English because it does not affect the language of the operating system itself. In the next window, select the required OS version. In this case, it will be Windows 7 … x64. If you select x86, a 32-bit version of the operating system will be installed.
Step 5
In the next window of the program, click the "Install" button. Select the hard disk partition where you want to install the new 64-bit operating system.
Step 6
If there is no such section, create it. To do this, click the "Disk Setup" button. Select the local drive you want to split and click the Delete button. Now click the "Create" button and specify the size of the future disk. Repeat this operation to create a second partition.
Step 7
Select the required local drive and click the "Install" button. During the installation process, the computer will restart two times. Please note that programs targeting a 32-bit operating system will now be installed in the Program Files x86 folder.
