A computer cooler is a cooling system that uses the force of an electric current to rotate a screw, creating a directed air flow. This stream cools devices with increased heat generation, preventing overheating.
Types of coolers
There are a lot of computer coolers. They can vary in size, color, power, weight. An important factor for the processor is the weight of the cooler: the more it weighs, the more expensive it is, but at the same time it cools better. You can find coolers weighing up to 1.5 kg, although the sufficient weight will be up to 700 g. Color does not affect the operation of the cooling system at all, the most significant are size and power. The power depends on the size and manufacturer, and the size determines which device the cooler is intended for. For the processor, the cooler should be 5-9 cm in size, the dimensions for the side exhaust should be 10-12 cm (the manufacturer himself determines the dimensions).
Coolers are divided into:
- ordinary components;
- for moding.
Conventional components - cooling systems that have a standard, factory look, have a low power, due to this, they are in great demand. They are sold together with the system unit. If desired, it is possible to add a few more coolers to it. They can be found in their respective stores.
Modified coolers
These coolers are described as improvements, modifications. Compared to standard coolers, mod coolers are much more powerful. Another difference is its pleasant appearance, which can please the eye. Some are equipped with backlighting, due to which the computer will become even more attractive. Although their popularity is due not to the backlight, but to the high power.
Cooler power and endurance
The main parameters in the power of coolers are the current voltage, as well as the number of revolutions per second. Factory-fitted coolers, on average, absorb current from 8 to 24 volts. But modded coolers have a better indicator: their current absorption strength is from 8 to 64 volts. This means: if the modded cooler has a high power, then the number of revolutions per second also increases.
Let's make a comparison. To do this, let's imagine that different coolers were installed on two video cards. Before starting to work, the video card must reach the operating temperature (65 degrees). And now a video card with a standard cooler, having heated up to operating temperature in fifteen seconds, starts to work. While the games are not running on the computer (quiet mode), the temperature of the video card remains approximately at the same level and does not rise. After starting the game, the video card instantly heats up to 75 degrees.
This is normal for game mode. But after a while, the temperature again increases by several degrees, a little later another jump. In such situations, the video card requires a more powerful cooling system to cool the video card and stabilize the temperature. Factory coolers generally cannot cope with this task. The whole problem is low power, it is not enough to lower the temperature of the video card, which is why it will malfunction in the future. As for the coolers themselves, their normal operation time is about six hours. After this time, the coolers themselves begin to warm up and work not so stably. Now, in the same situation, let's imagine a modded cooler.
At the same time, you can see that this cooler copes much better, and the period of operation of a modded cooler in game mode can reach up to 32 hours. And in quiet mode, the cooler works freely for three days without interruption.
