Sometimes some applications change the system settings, as a result, the screen refresh rate decreases, which can lead to rapid eye fatigue. Unfortunately, not all users know how to return this parameter back.

Instructions

Step 1

If you notice that the picture on the monitor has begun to flicker, then the first step is to check the refresh rate of the image. To do this, press the "Start" button and click on the control panel icon, which can be displayed as a folder or as a list. Open the folder and find a shortcut with the name "Screen", or find an item with the same name in the list and click on it. In the next window that appears, click on the "Options" tab and check the screen resolution. At very high resolutions, the refresh rate is automatically lowered, so you need to set the nominal value, which is usually 1024x768 for 17 "monitors and 1280x1024 for 19" monitors.

Step 2

After you have made sure that the required screen resolution is set, click the "Advanced" button on the same tab and go to the next dialog box, in which we find the "Monitor" tab and activate it. On this tab in the block with the name “Monitor settings” there is a line showing the current refresh rate of the monitor. If you click on the arrow on the right, a list of available refresh rates for this screen resolution will open, from which you should select the highest. After that, close all windows by clicking OK, and make sure that the flickering of the picture is gone.

Step 3

If this method did not help, or there are no other values in the list of available frequencies, except for 60 Hz, therefore, there is a problem with the video card driver, which should be reinstalled. In this case, you should insert the disk with the driver into the drive, go to the control panel again from the “Start” menu and select the “System” icon. In the window that opens, on the "Hardware" tab, click on the "Device Manager" button. In the "Video adapters" section of the window that opens, select your video card, and in the next window on the "Driver" tab, click the "Update" button. Next, in the hardware update wizard, select the item "Install from a specified location" and specify the CD-ROM. The installer will find and install the required software by itself. After waiting for completion, restart the computer, after which the monitor refresh rate will be restored.
