The need to replace the RAM of a stationary computer can be dictated by various reasons: a breakdown of RAM, unstable system operation, or simply the need for modernization. In any case, it is important to know how to properly replace the RAM on your computer.
Necessary
- - one or more strips of RAM;
- - screwdriver.
Instructions
Step 1
In order to start replacing the RAM, turn off the computer and disconnect it from the network. Disconnect all cables that connect the system unit to the peripherals. Remove the side cover of the system unit using a screwdriver.
Step 2
Remove all cables from the RAM connectors that interfere with free access. Keep in mind that the processor fan can also make it difficult to access memory. In this case, it will have to be removed for the duration of the work.
Step 3
Take out the old memory. To do this, carefully open the connector latches and remove the memory bar.
Step 4
Insert the new memory strip in place of the old one. The notch on the bracket should line up with the notch on the connector on the motherboard. Be aware that attempting to install DDR2 memory into a socket designated for DDR3 memory can damage the memory as well as damage the motherboard and thus damage your computer. Do not install memory that is faster than the motherboard.
Step 5
Using minimal force, gently push the latches until they lock into place. Make sure the memory is firmly seated in the slot.
Step 6
Return all cables and wires to their original position. If you removed the processor fan, reinstall it. Screw back the side cover of the system unit.
Step 7
Try turning on your computer. If everything was done correctly, then the operating system will simply boot. If the system does not boot, and the speaker makes frequent sounds, then either the memory is installed poorly, or the new memory strip is damaged.
