Styles in Photoshop are a pre-created combination of customized effects that are designed to create a specific result, such as simulating glass or wood. Styles are used to quickly and non-destructively process an image and are applied to individual layers.
Instructions
Step 1
In the latest versions of the program, there are several kinds of ready-to-use styles. They are located in the Styles panel - "Styles". To call this panel, open the Window menu and select the appropriate line. A palette will open in front of you, which will show samples of the loaded styles. Styles are not applied to the entire image, but to individual layers. Using predefined styles is easy enough. While on the required layer, double-click on the icon with the selected sample.
Step 2
To see all the available style sets, click on the tiny triangle in the upper right corner of the palette. You will see a window with options, at the bottom of which there is a list of loaded styles. Click on the name of the set you want, for example, Abstract Style - "Abstract style". A dialog box opens asking: Replace current style with the style from Abstract Style? - "Do you want to replace the set style with" Abstract style? " Click OK to accept the program's offer. If you want to add a new set while keeping the previous ones, click the Append button.
Step 3
By changing the effects of a layer, you can edit pre-made styles, as well as create new ones. Click on the fx icon at the bottom left of the Layers palette. This will open the Layer Style dialog box, on the left side of which you will see a list of sections. The first of them, Styles - "Styles" is intended for the selection and management of ready-made styles. The next section, Blending Options: Default, is used to adjust the blending mode of the layer. The rest of the sections are used to select and configure individual effects.
Step 4
By applying these effects in various combinations and experimenting with the settings, you can create your own unique styles. To select an effect, click on the line with its name. The configurable parameters will be shown on the right side of the window. After adjusting all the selected effects, save the created style. To do this, you need to click the New Style button and assign a suitable name to it in the window that opens. Now click on the OK button and your style will be added last to the loaded set. You can use it at any time.
Step 5
Use the Bevel and Emboss effect to simulate volume, create chamfers and reliefs. It works well for manipulating text layers and shapes. If you need to create a color or gradient stroke, apply the Stroke effect. Parameter Inner Shadow - "Inner shadow" creates a shadow from the borders within the object itself. Applying this effect makes it appear as if the subject has been cut out of the background. To simulate the light coming from the inside of the object, use Inner Glow - "Inner glow".
Step 6
To create the impression of blur and silk highlights, in conjunction with other effects, use the Satin - "Gloss" function. Group Effects Overlay - "Overlay" overlay the content of the layer with color, gradient or pattern fills. The effects of this group can be used together. If you need to highlight a text box made on a multicolored background, use the Outer Glow effect. Apply the Drop Shadow effect to simulate the shadow of an object on a plane.
