Typically, hard drives are split into multiple partitions. But sometimes you need to delete one of the sections to increase the volume of the other. There are several different methods for this.

Step 1
It is very easy to delete one of the sections. This can be done even with standard tools of any operating system of the Windows family. Open the Run menu, type diskmgmt.msc into it and press Enter. This will open the disk management menu. Right-click on the hard drive partition you no longer need and select "Delete".

The method is very simple and quick, but it has one significant drawback: the partition you deleted will simply disappear. Those. some part of the hard drive will not be used. This is not for everyone. Usually you need to merge partitions or reallocate space between them.

In such cases, use special programs. Take Partition Manager as an example. Download the version of the program suitable for your operating system. Restart your computer to complete the installation of the program.

Start Partition Manager. Highlight the desired section, right-click on it and click "Delete section". This operation will result in you getting free unallocated space. It is recommended to implement it to reduce the time for merging partitions.
Step 5
You can skip this step, format the unneeded section, and open the Wizards tab. Go to the Advanced Options menu and select Merge Sections. Indicate the two sections that you want to combine into one. Click "Next".
Step 6
If one of the partitions participating in the merge is a system partition (an operating system is installed on it), the computer will reboot, and the program will continue its work in MS-DOS mode.
Step 7
To speed up the merging process, both sections recommend formatting. This is an optional condition, but it can reduce the time of this operation from a few hours to a couple of minutes.
