Today it is impossible to imagine working in operating systems of the Windows line without using desktop icons. The so-called shortcut or file icons are used to graphically display the contents of objects. Almost all icons are originally created by software or application developers. After installing these applications and displaying the shortcut on the desktop, it becomes possible to replace the shortcut icon with your personal one. Sometimes the background of icons is opaque, which significantly degrades the appearance of the icon. Read about how to make it transparent in this article.
Necessary
Editing the parameters of the "System Properties" applet
Instructions
Step 1
Most often, the opaque background of icons on the desktop is caused by a special reduction in the load of the operating system on the computer as a whole. Any graphic element, each time the screen is refreshed, requests information from the system; when performing this action, not only the processor and RAM, but also the hard disk with the video card can be involved. If you think that your computer is relatively outdated and does not cope with all tasks, then it makes sense to change the graphics display settings for faster operation of the operating system.
Step 2
In order to activate or deactivate the transparent background of the desktop icons, you need to launch the "System Properties" applet. This action can be done in 2 ways:
- click the "Start" menu, select "Control Panel". In the window that opens, double-click on the "System" icon;
- right-click on the "My Computer" icon, select "System Properties".
In the window that opens, go to the "Advanced" tab. Click the Options button in the Performance section.
Step 3
In the new Performance Options window, check the box next to Special Effects. In the list below, check the box next to the item "Drop shadows with icons on the desktop" to make the icons transparent, otherwise the icons will not be transparent.
Step 4
Click the "OK" button to save the changes.
