Folders in Windows operating systems are called directories on disks that are specially created by the system or user to store files and programs. Unprotected folders can be moved, copied, renamed or deleted by the user.
Instructions
Step 1
Open the directory where the folder you want to rename is located. To do this, you can use the system function to find files and folders.
Step 2
Click on the name of the desired folder with the right mouse button once. A context menu will open with a list of possible actions on the folder.
Step 3
In the list of actions, select the line "Rename". You can also left-click on a folder once, highlighting it, and then left-click again. The folder name text is highlighted.
Step 4
Enter a new folder name and left-click anywhere in the window's viewing area or press the Enter key. The folder name will change to a new one.
Step 5
You can also rename the folder through the properties window. To do this, right-click on the folder name once and select the "Properties" line in the context menu.
Step 6
At the top of the General tab is a text box with the existing folder name. Change the name of the folder to a new one and sequentially press the "Apply" and "Ok" buttons.
Step 7
You can also rename a folder using the Total Commander program. To do this, start the program and in one of the navigation areas open the directory where the required folder is located.
Step 8
Select the folder with a single left-click on its name, wait a few seconds and make another left-click on the folder. The folder name text is highlighted for changes.
Step 9
Total Commander has hotkeys for quick access to certain functions. To rename a folder, select it with a single right-click and press the "F2" key on your keyboard. The folder name will be highlighted, delete it and enter a new one.
