BIOS flashing programs are produced by manufacturing firms or are written independently by third-party developers. If you are new to the flashing procedure, choose only original software.

Necessary

  • - floppy disk;
  • - flasher program.

Instructions

Step 1

Prepare your computer for flashing. This action should be performed only if there is an uninterrupted power supply, if possible, use the UPS, if not, select the night time for flashing. Also make sure your operating system is stable enough, Windows XP, Vista or Seven will do.

Step 2

If you have an older operating system, use the firmware from DOS or directly from the BIOS, if such an item is provided by your motherboard model. Using a flasher program, copy the image of the current version of your BIOS.

Step 3

Find software for flashing the BIOS of your motherboard model. You can usually find it on the manufacturer's website or on a CD with your computer. Please note that the firmware must match the name of the board's microcircuits. Leave the version of the program at your discretion, but it is recommended to read user reviews before doing this.

Step 4

Select the method for flashing the BIOS. The most convenient way is directly from under the operating system, however, there is still the possibility of updating from DOS or from the BIOS menu. In the first case, the flashing program is launched, in which you just need to start the update, after specifying the path to the file of the software you downloaded.

Step 5

Updating from DOS is performed in the same way - the installation file is written to a floppy disk and loaded from its menu. If your motherboard model supports updating directly from the BIOS, insert the required floppy disk into the drive, then restart the computer and press Del. In the BIOS, select the update item, and then specify the floppy disk with the file.

Step 6

After flashing, disconnect the computer from the power source, remove the battery from the motherboard, disconnect all power cables. After half an hour, carry out the initial setting of the parameters. In case of problems with flashing, boot from a recovery floppy, then select a firmware version lower than the previous one, most likely, in this case, you are faced with unfinished software.
