Windows operating systems have a very good feature called System Restore. It allows you to return the system to a working state in the event of a failure or penetration of viruses.
Instructions
Step 1
First, enable the automatic creation of Windows XP system restore checkpoints. It is not recommended to enable it if the volume of the system partition of the hard disk is very limited. Open the "Start" menu and right-click on the "My Computer" icon.
Step 2
Select Properties. In the window that appears, open the "System Restore" tab. Highlight the system partition of the disk and click the "Options" button. Allocate the required amount of space on this partition, which will be allocated for creating recovery checkpoints. Click the "Ok" button.
Step 3
Now create your own system restore checkpoint. Open the Start menu and go to the All Programs submenu. Select the "Accessories" tab, then "System Tools" and go to the "System Restore" menu.
Step 4
In the window that appears, select the "Create a restore point" option. Click "Next". Enter a name or description for the future point. Click the Create button and wait for the checkpoint creation process to complete.
Step 5
To use the previously created checkpoint, open the System Restore menu as described in the third step. Select "Restore the computer to an earlier state". Click "Next".
Step 6
A new window displays a calendar showing the dates in bold when the restore points were created. Select the desired date and click the "Next" button. In the next window, confirm the selected checkpoint by clicking the "Next" button. After completing the system restore process, the computer will automatically restart. Remember that this process does not affect non-system files, i.e. all new documents, music, movies, etc. will be saved.
