Disabling the autorun feature for removable media may be necessary to improve the security of your computer, since the autorun file, which is often used by malware, is launched by default when a removable device is connected.
Instructions
Step 1
Press the "Start" button to bring up the main menu of the system and go to the "Run" item to perform the operation of disabling the autorun function of removable media.
Step 2
Enter gpedit.msc in the Open field and click OK to confirm the launch of the Group Policy Editor tool.
Step 3
Go to the Computer Configuration tab of the editor dialog box that opens and go to Administrative Templates.
Step 4
Expand the "System" link and open the context menu of the "Disable autorun" line by right-clicking.
Step 5
Select Properties and go to the Parameter tab of the new dialog box.
Step 6
Apply the checkbox to the "Enabled" field and select the "all drives" item in the drop-down list of the "Disable autorun on" section.
Step 7
Press the OK button to confirm the execution of the command and return to the main Start menu to save the changes.
Step 8
Go to Run and enter gpupdate in the Open field.
Step 9
Click OK to apply the selected changes.
Step 10
Return to the main Start menu and go to Run to disable autorun for removable media using the Registry Editor tool.
Step 11
Enter regedit in the Open field and click OK to confirm the editor launch.
Step 12
Expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetServicesCDRom registry key and select the AutoRun key.
Step 13
Change the value of the selected key to 0 and press the softkey labeled Enter to confirm your choice.
Step 14
Restart your computer to apply the selected changes.
