A flash drive is one of the most convenient storage media. The capacity of modern flash drives reaches 128 gigabytes. But if the flash drive is very large, then for more convenient use it is better to split it into several partitions (as is done with a hard drive). Then it will be much more convenient to store information, and the risk of data loss is much lower, which is also important. After splitting a flash drive into a couple of partitions, you yourself will be able to appreciate the obvious benefits.
Necessary
- - Computer;
- - flash drive;
- - the BooIT program.
Instructions
Step 1
The first thing you need is the BooIT program. Using her example, the procedure for splitting a flash drive will be painted. The program can be downloaded for free. Install it on your hard drive.
Step 2
Before you start, you should transfer information from your flash drive. The flash drive must be empty. Now insert it into your computer. After that, run the program and its menu will open. In this menu, select your flash drive and then click the Flip Removable Bit button. Remove the USB device from the computer and then plug it back in. You will see that the flash drive will now be recognized as a hard drive.
Step 3
Then click "Start" and select "All Programs". Go to "Standard". There is a "Command Line" in standard programs. Start it up. At the command prompt, enter diskmgmt.msc. The Disk Management window appears. This window will display all the partitions on your hard drive. Among them will be your USB flash drive, which, as you remember, was converted into a hard drive. Click on it with the right mouse button, then select "Delete section" in the context menu.
Step 4
After that, again click on the flash drive with the right mouse button, but this time select "Create section". A "wizard" will appear to help you create a partition on your flash drive. All you need to do is specify the size of the partition and select the file system. After completing the creation of one section, you can start creating the second.
Step 5
After partitioning the device, remove it from the computer. Reboot your PC. Insert your USB stick. You will see that now it does not appear as one whole, but the computer sees it as multiple partitions (depending on how many partitions you have created). This completes the procedure for splitting the flash drive. If necessary, you can add or delete a section at any time in exactly the same way as described above.
