In cases where the user needs to open a file whose format cannot be recognized by any application installed on his computer, he can either install the required program or use a converter. The converter allows you to convert files from one format to another. There is only one way to check the converter for operability - to install it and try it in action.
Instructions
Step 1
Before installing the converter on your computer, check the programs already on your computer. For example, if you work with 3-d objects and use MilkShape 3D or 3DS Max for this application, in the main program menu, instead of the Open command, select the Import command. Look at the formats in which you can import the object into the editor, perhaps the list will contain the format that you cannot open. After importing, simply save the file in the format you want by choosing the Export command.
Step 2
If you nevertheless decided to install the converter, before installing, carefully read what formats it works with. Make sure the list contains the formats you need. Please note: it is important not only that the converter recognizes the format you need, but also that it can save it after converting with the extension that one of the programs on your computer can recognize.
Step 3
Some converters do not need to be installed, they are ready to go right away. For others, you must first run the installation file and select a local disk on which the files you need to work will be written to. Remember the directory where you install the converter. Launch it and follow the instructions supplied with the converter to convert a file from one format to another. If you can open the converted file, then the converter is working.
Step 4
Some converters only work with the applications for which they were created. Such converters are usually placed in the Plug-ins folder in the directory of the corresponding program. Make sure you put the files in the correct folder, launch the app, and follow the instructions to open or import the file you couldn't open. Then export it or save it in the format you need.
