Font files in the system are used to display elements of the "Explorer" windows, display the text of a document on the screen, or to work in the interface of graphics editors. To use fonts when editing symbols, you must place the corresponding files in the Windows system directory.

Automatic extraction

To install the fonts, you first need the required font file from the Internet. It should be noted that each downloaded document must have the TTF extension, which is recognized in the system and is one of the most popular for working in the system.

There are also OTF or FON character set files.

The fonts are usually distributed in archives that you need to extract prior to installation. Right-click on the downloaded archive file and click "Extract", then select the folder into which you want to unpack. After the operation is completed, the archiver window will be closed and you can go to the folder for installing the character sets.

Double click the left mouse button to automatically install the font. You can also use the "Install" context menu, which is called when you right-click on the document. Once launched, it will automatically be added to the Windows directory where the necessary files are located. The system does not require any further action from the user, and you can start working with the character set.

Manual installation

If for some reason the file cannot be launched, you can move it manually. To do this, go to the "Start" - "Computer" and select "Local drive C:". In the list of folders, double-click on the Windows directory and then on the Fonts directory. Copy all the font files found in your downloads folder to the last directory.

The required fonts will be automatically installed and available for use in a text editing utility or graphics editor. Open the program and in the top toolbar find the file you just installed, which will have the same name as the character set copied to the system folder.

Do not remove fonts that were previously preinstalled on the system. They can come in handy when working with various programs. If the required character set is missing, a corresponding notification will appear on the screen.

You don't have to find the required directory every time - you can place symbols in the system through the "Fonts" menu. To do this, click "Start" - "Control Panel" - "Appearance and Personalization" - "Fonts". Move the files you need to this window by dragging and dropping the left mouse button. The fonts will be installed immediately. Through this panel, you can also delete unnecessary character sets. To do this, right-click on the selected file and click "Delete". Confirm the deletion by clicking "Ok".
