Traditionally, computer and laptop manufacturers supply their products with not very high quality built-in sound cards. This policy is not very clear, but still, it should be taken for granted. Therefore, in order to enjoy high-quality sound, users often buy an external sound card. To eliminate possible hardware conflicts, the built-in should be disabled.

Instructions

Step 1

Disable your sound card via BIOS. To enter BIOS, restart your computer and when the motherboard welcome screen appears, press F4 or F8 (depending on your PC manufacturer). After entering this system, use the "left" and "right" buttons to navigate between the menu items, and the "up" and "down" buttons to move between the tab items.

Step 2

Select the Integrated Peripherals or Advanced (depending on manufacturer) tab by navigating to the right through the BIOS tabs. Select AC97 Audio Select or Onboard AC'97 Audio (also depends on the manufacturer) and set the value to Disable. Move to the right again until the last tab appears, on which click the Exit With Saving Changes value. Press Enter twice. The computer will restart and the built-in sound card will be disabled.

Step 3

Disable the sound card in the Windows operating system. Click on the "Start" menu with the mouse. Select the Control Panel tab. In the control panel, find the shortcut "System". Double click on this icon. A window with a description of the system will appear.

Step 4

Click on the Equipments tab. In this tab, click on the Device Manager button. A window will appear in which you need to find the tab "Sound, video and game controllers" (Audio, Video And Game Controllers). Click on this tab and, in the list that appears, find your sound card. Double click on the item with the name of your built-in sound card. In the window that opens, in the "Application Of The Device" item, change the value from "This device is used (enabled)" (The Device Is Used (Enabled)) to "This device is not used (Disabled)" (The Device Is Not Used (Disabled)). Reboot your computer. The sound card will be disabled.
