Each WAN-connected computer has an IP address to identify its location. Knowing the IP of a computer, you can find out where its owner is.
Instructions
Step 1
Find out the IP address of the computer you need. You can do this, for example, using the MS Outlook mail program. While viewing letters from the desired person, right-click on the correspondent's address. Select "Properties" from the menu that appears and go to the "Details" tab. The Received: from line contains the sender's name and IP address. If a letter is sent from a computer connected to the local network, the line will contain the network address of the gateway.
Step 2
Use one of the Internet resources that allow you to locate your computer and get detailed information about it by IP, for example, "2ip". These sites provide the necessary data, taking into account the Internet provider that serves the computer. Click on the link "Information about the IP address …" and enter the appropriate combination of numbers. In the results obtained, you will see the geographic location, legal address, telephone number and other available data.
Step 3
Use another popular resource "IP-Whois". Click on the "IP Information" link on the right side of the home page. Specify the address of interest in the appropriate line and click "Run". In addition to the geographic location of the provider, you will be able to see the estimated location of the computer on a Google map.
Step 4
Install the free LanWhoIs application on your computer, which collects information about domains and IP addresses. You can download it on the developer's website. Enter the desired combination of numbers in the "Address" field and click "Request". To save the results, use the "Save" command, which is available in the "File" menu.
Step 5
Remember that some users take special measures to protect their computer and hide their IP address using proxy servers or anonymizers. In this case, you will not be able to locate them.
