Page numbering helps you better navigate the document and shape its content. Most often, it is put down independently, but sometimes Microsoft Word performs this function automatically. In such cases, a very reasonable question arises about how to disable numbering.

Necessary

  • - computer;
  • - Microsoft Word program.

Instructions

Step 1

Find the page number in the document. The number can be at the bottom or at the top of the page, depending on which settings were specified by the user.

Step 2

Select it by double-clicking on it with the left mouse button. As a result of these actions, a field will appear around the number, separated from the text of the document by a dotted line. This will be a header or footer.

Step 3

Click on the toolbar on the "Design" tab that appears, and in it - on the "Header and Footer" menu item. Depending on which part of the page the number is located on, the header or footer will be either the footer or the top.

Step 4

Select the "Delete Header & Footer" section from the drop-down menu. After completing these actions, the headers and footers along with the pagination are deleted throughout the document.

Step 5

Try another method. Double-click the number to display the header and footer field. Then make two clicks on the page number again. A blue square should form around it. After that, press the Delete key on the keyboard, and the numbering will disappear.

Step 6

Very often it becomes necessary not to put down the number on the first page, but to take it into account when numbering the entire document. To solve this problem, select the header on the first sheet as described above. Enter the "Constructor" tab, select the "Page number" / "Format of page numbers" section.

Step 7

In the window that appears, put a check mark next to the text "Start with …" and select the number from which the second page should begin. Usually this is number 2. Then click "OK".

Step 8

Go back to the "Design" tab and check the box next to the "Special header and footer for the first page." After that, this header will be blank by default. Double click on the text of your document, and you will see that the number on the first page is not entered, and the entire numbering of the document starts from the second.
