You look bad today, and you have an important Skype conversation with a client or customer. Or maybe your soul mate is knocking on your video chat and you don't want him or her to see you “like that”. Of course, you can say this directly and offer to communicate by voice or text messages, but not everyone will understand this. Sometimes it can even cause resentment. How to get out of this situation? Just turn off the webcam.

Instructions
Step 1
If you are working on a stationary computer and the webcam is an external device, simply unplug the camera cord from the connector on the system unit. If you have a laptop and a webcam is built into it, use the settings of the parameters of your computer.
Step 2
To disable the camera, you need the Windows Control Panel. She is responsible for configuring the parameters of the computer. To find it, click the Start button in the lower left corner of your desktop. In the menu that appears, select the "Control Panel" item.
Step 3
You can also use the My Computer shortcut on your desktop. Double click on it. In the top line of the window that opens, select "Open Control Panel".
Step 4
So, you got to the "Control Panel". What's next? Find the item "Device Manager" in the displayed list and click on it with the left mouse button. The system will display a list of devices connected to your computer. Look for Imaging Devices in the list and click on it. In the drop-down list, the system will display a list of devices of this category. One of these devices will be your webcam.
Step 5
Select it from the list and right-click on its name. In the menu that appears, select Disable. The system will notify you that turning off the device means that it will stop working. If you have not changed your mind about turning off the webcam, click the "Yes" button (if in the future you need to turn the webcam back on, just select the "Enable" item in the same menu).
Step 6
After that, all open settings windows can be closed. The webcam is already disabled. But please note that after restarting the operating system, the webcam will work again. That is, every time you reboot, you will have to manually disable your webcam through the Windows Control Panel.
