The creation of multiple partitions on the hard disk is practiced to make it easier for the user to work with the PC. First, you can separate the user's files from the operating system files so that they are preserved if the operating system is unexpectedly reinstalled. Secondly, it becomes possible to have two or more operating systems, while using one hard drive. Thirdly, it is possible to improve the performance of the PC.

Instructions

Step 1

Before you start creating new partitions on a hard disk with Windows 7 already installed on it, it is recommended that you close all running applications.

Step 2

Open the "Start" menu, then - the item "Control Panel", and in it select the item "System and Security". Then click on "Computer Management". In the window that appears, move the cursor towards the "Storage Devices" line, where you will find the "Disk Management" section you need. Here you will see a display of the hard disk, on which, by compressing the contents, you will get free space.

Step 3

In the list of volumes, right-click on the hard disk and select "Shrink Volume", after which you will get a certain amount of unallocated space. Now you need to create a simple volume in a new cell. To do this, also right-click and select the appropriate item from the pop-up menu. You will see the "Simple Volume Wizard" window, in which you need to click "Next", select the required size for the new volume and click "Next" again.

Step 4

You will be prompted to select a drive letter that is not currently being used. Click "Next" and then specify the NTFS format for the file system. Select Default for cluster size. Check the box next to "Quick Format" and remove it from the "Apply compression of files and folders" item. Click Next again and a summary of the basic information about the new volume will be displayed.

Step 5

Click Finish and wait for the volume to be formatted. At this point, it is advisable not to perform any actions on the computer, which will allow it to correctly complete the process. After that, you need to restart the PC, and you will become the owner of one or several (depending on your preferences) new partitions on the disk.
