The type of software that you can install depends on the bitness of the operating system. Programs for 32 and 64-bit OS versions are incompatible. Therefore, if you have just purchased a computer, then before looking for the necessary programs, first check the bitness of your OS. Also, if you plan to install more than four gigabytes of RAM, you need to make sure that you have a 64-bit operating system installed.
It is necessary
- - Computer with Windows OS;
- - AIDA64 Extreme Edition program.
Instructions
Step 1
If the computer included a disc with an operating system (it is usually issued when buying laptops with an OS already installed), then you can find out the system bit by looking at the package for it. Alternatively, refer to the manual that came with the OS disc.
Step 2
You can use the standard tools of the operating system. Right-click on "My Computer". When the context menu appears, select Properties. A window will appear with basic information about your computer. In this window, you can view information about the bitness of your version of Windows.
Step 3
You can also use the command line to determine the bitness of the operating system. Click Start. Select "All Programs", then - "Standard Programs". Find and run the command line in standard programs.
Step 4
In the Command Prompt window, enter the Systeminfo command and press the Enter key. In a second, information about your operating system will appear. There will also be its bit depth.
Step 5
You can also enter dxdiag at the command line. Further in the window that opens, find the line "Operating system". The version of the operating system will be written there, as well as its bit depth.
Step 6
If, in addition to the bit depth, you are interested in additional information, then you can use special software. Download AIDA64 Extreme Edition from the Internet. Install it on your hard drive and run. After collecting information about the computer, you will find yourself in the main menu of the program.
Step 7
In the left part of the window, find the line "Operating system". Click on the arrow next to it with the left mouse button. In the list that appears, also select "Operating System". After that, comprehensive information about your OS version will appear on the right side of the window. Information will be presented in sections. The bit depth in this window can be viewed in the "System Properties" section in the value of the "Kernel Type" line.
