The command to delete a mail message is handled differently in Outlook Express, depending on where the deleted mail is saved. This can cause certain difficulties when working with mail.
Instructions
Step 1
Launch Outlook Express and select the mail message to be deleted in the header pane. Use one of the possible options: - open the "Edit" menu of the upper service panel of the application window and select the "Delete" command; - call the title bar context menu by right-clicking and select the "Delete" item; - click the "Delete" button in the upper service panel program window panels; - use the Del function key or the combination of the Ctrl and Del keys.
Step 2
If the message is in the viewing window, it is possible that you can use several deletion methods: - open the "File" menu of the upper service panel of the Outlook Express window and select the "Delete message" command; - click the "Delete" button in the upper service panel of the application window; - use the functional Del key or the combination of Ctrl and Del keys.
Step 3
Please note that a letter deleted from a local folder is moved to a special "Deleted Items" folder for recovery (if necessary). To completely delete a mail message, open the "Edit" menu of the upper service panel of the program window and select the "Clear deleted folder" command. Confirm the execution of the selected action by clicking the "Yes" button in the system request window that opens.
Step 4
Please note that messages stored on the server are not actually deleted, but only marked with the "For deletion" symbol. In order to completely delete the selected mail messages, open the "Edit" menu in the upper service pane of the Outlook Express window and select the "Clear Deleted Messages" command. Confirm the execution of the selected action by clicking the "Yes" button in the system request window that opens.
Step 5
With large volumes of mail messages in the "Deleted Items" folder, it may be necessary to compress the message base. To do this, open the "File" menu of the top toolbar and select the "Folder" item. Select the "Compress All Folders" subcommand and delete unnecessary emails after the process is complete.
